Elevating Local Downtowns

City of Wilmington

Amount Awarded: $2 Million | Scheduled Completion June 2025

The City of Wilmington received $2 Million in Will County American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocations for infrastructure improvements that will support their continued Downtown Revitalization Project. The City of Wilmington has begun construction on the project, which is on track to be completed by June 1 in time for the City’s downtown summer events.

The overall improvements include storm sewer rehabilitation, manhole rehabilitation, sanitary sewer lining, and water main improvements on North Kankakee Street, North Main Street, and North Water Street. As part of ongoing downtown revitalization efforts, the City of Wilmington is also repaving N. Main Street and N. Kankakee Street, repairing various curbs, and resurfacing/expanding public parking lots.

Work began on the project in February 2025 to replace years of outdated infrastructure, with many water and sewer assets over one hundred years old. Will County ARPA funds have also been allocated to the City of Wilmington to support their dam modification plan.

“These grants have allowed our town to take on projects that have been long overdue or on a wish list and turned them into reality.”

Mayor Ben Dietz | City of Wilmington
