Manhattan-Elwood Library District
Expanding Library Service
Manhattan-Elwood Library District
Amount Awarded: $30,000 | Completed November 2024
Will County American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding supported the construction of a new branch for the Manhattan-Elwood Library District, addressing a lack of a local library and the need for internet and computer access in the community. The new building opened to the public on November 20, 2024 with a ribbon cutting and open house.
The new branch, located in downtown Ellwood, offers 24/7 contactless access to library materials, essential digital services for residents without home internet or computers, a children’s reading area, and printing services. The district will be hosting programming at the space in 2025.
“We are excited to open the second branch in our library district allowing us to better serve our residents. The funding we received from the American Rescue Plan Act allowed us to purchase a state-of-the-art locker system that allows residents to access their materials when it’s convenient for them.”
