Maintaining Staffing

Plainfield Fire Protection District

Amount Awarded: $199,924 | Project Status: Completed Dec 2022

The funds received were used to offset the cost of staffing the Fire District during the pandemic. We had several of our personnel impacted by COVID which increased our overtime expenditures ensuring our vehicles were staffed and could respond safely and effectively.

Having the ability to use the ARPA funds to reimburse the fire district for staffing expenditures during the pandemic allowed the fire district to prioritize other projects and reallocate funds. One project that would have been delayed due to the staffing expenditures during the pandemic was the purchase of a new ambulance. With ARPA funding being used to reimburse staffing expenditures, the fire district was able to place the order for the new ambulance increasing the safety and reliability of our fleet. Additionally, the new ambulance included a UV disinfection system in the patient compartment to ensure bacteria or other germs do not spread to other patients and our members after each call.

“ARPA funding allowed the Plainfield Fire Protection District the ability to enhance our services and ensure staffing levels could be maintained during the pandemic.”
